The first State House is built in Charleston.
1790
The second State House is built in South Carolina and the first meeting of the legislature is held.
1865
The State House is destroyed by fire during the Civil War by General William T. Sherman on February 17.
1903
The third State House is completed after nearly 50 years of being under construction. This State House is fireproof by design.
